Objective and Programs

In 1966, the Iranian Genetics Society was established to expand, promote, and advance the science of genetics. The society's objectives include the quantitative and qualitative development of specialized human resources, as well as the improvement of educational and research activities in fields related to the science of genetics. The Iranian Genetics Society, as a non-profit institution, operates in various scientific, research, and advisory fields within the realm of genetics. Since its registration, it has had a legal personality, and the head of its board of directors serves as its legal representative. The Iranian Genetics Society, with over 50 years of scientific activity in the country and a membership of nearly 3000 specialists and researchers in the field of genetics, has been consistently recognized in successive periods as one of the top 10 scientific societies in Iran. The Iranian Genetics Society is continuously active in various fields related to the science of genetics, aiming to achieve diverse goals such as enhancing the knowledge of its members and promoting the relationship between industry and academia. The society's objectives are pursued through the creation of specialized groups in the field of genetics, including human genetics, agricultural genetics, genetic resources, animal genetics, prokaryotic genetics, stem cells, and student groups. Specialized activities within each branch, relevant to their respective fields, are actively carried out to fulfill the society's goals. And some of the activities carried out over the years to achieve the society's objectives include:

  • Organizing national, regional, and international conferences to facilitate the exchange of information and experiences.
  • Introducing the society to governmental and non-governmental authorities and establishing connections in various genetic fields.
  • Providing specialized opinions and consultations to authorities in various policy areas related to the science of genetics.
  • Conducting workshops and specialized and general training courses in various genetic fields, both in-person and virtually.
  • Publishing specialized journals (such as the Genetics-e Novin journal).
  • Honoring pioneers and influential scientific figures in the field of genetics.
  • Establishing bilateral cooperation and signing numerous memoranda of understanding with scientific institutions and charities in various genetics-related fields.
  • Establishing provincial branches in some provinces to organize all professionals in the field of genetics for the optimal utilization of this capacity at regional and national levels.
  • Holding sessions and lectures to facilitate knowledge exchange among members and promote the science of genetics at the national level.
  • Organizing national and international congresses, one of this society's most important scientific events, held every two years with the participation of professors, researchers, scientists, innovators, knowledge-based companies, and domestic and international students.

To date, the Iranian Genetics Society has organized 17 national congresses and five international congresses. With the help of divine providence, the society plans to hold its sixth international and eighteenth national congress from May 22 to 24, 2024, in Tehran.
